News about the trees which have been felled on the Caversfield side of Southwold Lane.
They have been felled with the agreement of Oxfordshire County Council to enable Southern and Scottish Energy to lay a new 11kv High Voltage cable from the new Bicester North Substation to a planned substation on Bucknell Road to feed the future development of the Bicester North Eco Town and relieve the pressure on the Bicester Primary station located on Pingle field.
It was decided that the best and safest route for the works was on the wide verge on the North side of Southwold Lane, rather than trying to dig up the footway on the South side and cross both Hornbeam and Heather roads that lead onto Southwold. Crossing of the Buckingham and Bicester roads will also be made easier on the North side due to road widths and traffic flow.
All trees that were due to be felled have now been done and will all be replaced once work is complete in line with Recommendations direct from OCC Arboricultural Officer. The reason the tree stumps have been left in place is because it is easier to remove them with a JCB or similar, as the works progress rather than “stump grind” them now and delay the works while roots are dug out. The length of the stumps is to allow said JCB plenty of purchase in order to remove quickly and safely.
Once work is complete a site inspection will take place to ensure all work and reinstatement is satisfactory to both the Arboricultural Team and the Highways Team.
