RAF Bicester history and current use
Bicester Heritage confirmed the purchase of the airfield and surrounding buildings from the MOD at the beginning of April 2013.
They have done a huge amount of restoration work to the buildings and the site has now been removed from English Heritage’s ‘At Risk’ register.
It is now being used as a centre of excellence for vintage motoring and aviation using the workshops and buildings for this burgeoning industry.
In Spring 2019 Bicester Heritage announced their proposals for the wider site which they have named ‘Bicester Motion’
The Bicester Motion Vision Document published in April 2019 is available here with permission from Bicester Motion.
More information can be read on their website Bicester Heritage
Wind rushers Gliding Club currently leases the airfield from Bicester Heritage.
Engine noise from the airfield
There have been some complaints about engine noise and events on the airfield. Cherwell District Council is monitoring this, but if any villager has an issue with this, please log it on CDC’s noise and nuisance enquiries page this can then help the team with the extent and the area of the impact.
